This is an exciting NEW course for 2020. Practical and hands-on for BEGINNERS but I also welcome those of you who have worked with metal before and who might appreciate the opportunity to expand their knowledge and develop their technique and creative ideas within a small group. It will be an intensive class and may run over a little depending on progress, but I can guarantee you will have a great experience as well as lots of fun. My studio is a wonderful space, relaxing and supporting with plenty of room for lots of creativity.
Discover the pleasure of embossing and working tactile, beautiful, lead-free pewter sheet into stunning pieces. This in-depth workshop is suitable for anyone you do not need any special skills. I will guide you through making a cover for a notebook to familiarise yourself with the process and the properties of the metal. You will then move on to make a mirror or picture frame with optional doors. You may bring pattern ideas if you wish, but I will supply all you need to complete both projects including designs. You will also take home a set of embossing tools to continue at home as well as a full set of course notes.
Basic skills you will learn in this course:
- The different types of metal sheet that can be used.
- How to work with patterns and how to adapt patterns to suit the project
- The different tools available for embossing and metal decoration
- Embossing techniques
- How to backfill your work
- Use of paints and finishing techniques for colouring and altering the finished piece
- There maybe the opportunity to learn some soldering techniques – time dependent
- Safety while using tools and materials
- Finishing and polishing
There is a limit of 8 students per class which will ensure you will receive a high level of individual tuition.
The cost includes all materials, lead-free pewter sheet, copper tape and tools for your day (you will get to take home your own set of embossing tools to use yourself). You will need to bring lots of enthusiasm, an apron and old clothes.
FOOD
A light vegetarian lunch is served, a selection of teas and coffee are available throughout the day.
COST
The course costs €70 and includes all materials, use of tools and safety equipment, course tuition notes, refreshments and lunch.
The deposit for this course is €35 and is payable at the time of booking (I will send you a Paypal invoice). The balance is payable in cash on the day.
