A fabulous introduction to this wonderful craft, using the Tiffany style of copper foiling you will make a beautiful stained glass light catcher/mirror to hang in a bright window. A practical, exciting, hand-on beginners course.
This is an exciting, practical, hands-on course for BEGINNERS but I also welcome improvers who might appreciate the opportunity to expand their knowledge and develop their technique and creative ideas within a small group. It will be an intensive class and may run over a little depending on progress, but I can guarantee you will have a great experience as well as lots of fun. My new studio is a wonderful space, relaxing and supporting with plenty of room for lots of creativity.
This class uses the Tiffany Style or Copper Foil method of glass making, it refers to the style of Louis Comfort Tiffany where each piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil before being soldered together. This method is generally used for making gifts and small items but it is also used in combination with traditional lead windows as there is much more scope for detail. It is traditionally used for fine delicate objects including lampshades, clocks, mirrors, boxes, terrariums etc. By the end of the day you will have created a beautiful stained glass mirror/picture frame/light catcher.
Basic skills you will learn in this course:
- How to work with a pattern
- Choosing and cutting glass with confidence
- Using copper tape to create the design
- Safety while using tools and materials
- Soldering
- Finishing and polishing your work
You will be making a glass piece which can be decorated if time permits with your own, bespoke decoration.
It is helpful if you have already worked with glass before but not essential you will have plenty of opportunity to practice. There is a limit of 4 students per class which will ensure you will receive a high level of individual tuition.
The cost includes all materials, glass, copper tape, solder and tools for your day. You will need to bring lots of enthusiasm, an apron and please wear study shoes, no open toes as well as old clothes.
PLEASE NOTE
This course involves working with lead so for safety reasons we recommend that pregnant women do not attend.
FOOD
A vegetarian lunch is served as a “bring and share” sit down meal. Please bring a plate of food to share or lunch can be provided by pre-booking at an additional cost of €5. Tea and coffee is available throughout the day.
COST
The course costs €100 and includes all materials, use of tools and safety equipment, course tuition notes, refreshments and lunch.
The deposit for this course is €50 and is payable at the time of booking (I will send you a Paypal invoice). The balance is payable in cash on the day.
