What you will discover is we are different. It's not just the high quality of the materials we use it's not just the authentic designs or the quality of workmanship its not just the brilliant team of people we have working on your ger it's a combination of all these and a certain something beyond words people love our work as they sense our passion, commitment and dedication to making our yurts the best.
Depending on the use you intend for your ger we offer a range of covers. A simple but effective canvas cover is standard with our ger. The canvas is 100% duck cotton 12oz (14 oz available) fire, water, and rot proofed.
Those who intend to live in their ger should consider felt insulation. Felt transforms a tent into a home. It gives a feeling of strength, warmth and security. Insulation is very important in the summer and winter. If you want to be warm and cosy in winter you WILL NEED felt. If you want to be cool you will also need felt. Our felt is 10mm 100% sheep's wool treated to be fire resistant.
Our fully covered and felted ger consist of the flowing:
- Wooden Frame the same high quality chestnut frame as with the canvas ger - see below.
- Inner cotton liner washable and fitted - it brightens up the interior and is made from 100% cotton.
- Natural Felt insulation 10mm 100% wool felt - naturally treated with fire retardant - thick enough to insulate the ger through the worst winters and hottest summers.
- Canvas Cover 100% cotton canvas - fully waterproofed 12 oz duck cotton, treated for fire prevention and rot proof. This canvas is the skin of the ger and stops the rain getting in.
Accessories:
- Outer Cotton Cover In Mongolia, all ger have a cotton cover over the canvas. This cover gives the ger the authentic look.
- Wooden doors - natural or painted - with or without a window.
- Baganas (crown supports)
- Stoves, flue pipes and flue collars
- Extra heavy duty ground sheets
- Tables and stools
- Fly screen walls, doors and crown covers. All Yurt Workshop ger ordered via Pure Portugal come with a free fly screen crown cover.
Wooden Frame Components:
- Walls Khana or Han: The walls come in collapsible sections that tie together with the traditional black ties. Made from sweet chestnut stripped and steam bent to give the characteristic gentle curve and are tied together to form the trellis. The chestnut is oiled to finish.
- Roof poles - Un or uni: Above the trellis the long chestnut roof poles join at the crown. Each end is shaped to fit the mortise in the crown and the other hand has a bridle to slide over the han tops.
- Crown Tono: Made from solid oak the crown is made with the traditional 8 spoke Mongol design. The outer ring contains the mortices for the uni to attach to it. Each crown is lovingly prepared, finished in oil or painted and it is the crowning glory of the ger.
- Doorframe Haddagh: The sturdy door frame is made from Flanders pine to give strength without being overly heavy. Each frame has no less than 8 steel rings to attach the various ropes necessary for a real ger. The dimensions are the same as found in Mongolia which mean the door frame does not stick up above the wall and destroy the beautiful profile our yurts have. Most of our customers ask for a wooden door to fit this frame. Our doors are made by a time served carpenter to a very high standard.
- Bagana: With the 18 foot ger we supply as standard the bagana. Two long poles with beech tops that attached to the crown with special white ties. The bagana are there to support the crown and enable it to be pitched with ease. If required we can supply these with the smaller ger.
10 Foot Ger (3.05m): At ten feet wide and seven feet high this yurt is surprisingly roomy. Its great for camping and very easy to transport. In addition, it is perfect for a play room in the garden. Children love yurts and find them a great place to play and have fun. Other uses we know of include a holiday home for 1/2 people, a sauna, meditation room, office and shop.
12 Foot Ger (3.66m): Our 12 foot ger are spacious and yet small enough to move with ease. Twelve feet wide, seven feet six high it can be used as permanent dwelling. One recent customer is using his for a home as he tours the country playing with a rock band. A second home is one of the most popular uses of our yurts; customers who have bought land and either don't want a house or are going to restore or build one while living in their ger. Other uses include spare room, classroom, therapy room, massage room, meditation room, sauna, bath house and children's den.
14 Foot Ger: The 14 foot Ger is our most popular size. Small enough to transport with the car and roof rack, yet big enough to sleep the full family in comfort. Other uses include temporary home, spare room, classroom, therapy room, massage room, children's den.
16 Foot Ger (4.9m): This is a big Ger and a good size for a family to live in. It is the same size as the Mongolians generally use for their families and is very popular with our customers. The higher walls give more headroom and very spacious feel. We can provide 4 foot walls for a lower pofile Ger.
18 Foot Ger: The 18 foot ger is a big space. Inside it feels roomy, open, and the high roof means you can stand up next to the wall. This size ger is great for living in. Room for all your furniture, beds, and a kitchen. With the addition of a wooden door and felt cover this becomes an all year round home - safe, secure, warm, and beautiful. For an 18 foot ger we make the frame heavier and stronger using a closer-spaced lattice frame. We also provide at no extra cost bagans (wooden uprights) to assist when pitching and provide stability in bad weather.
21 Foot Ger (6.4m): A 21 foot ger is the biggest ger we make. The best size for a spacious family home. It can also be used for a classroom, yoga room, therapy room, shop, home, office etc.
